* An array of Fourth of July events are scheduled, beginning July 2 with the Greenville Fire Co. holding its annual carnival at Steere's Field on Route 44, followed by a bonfire at 11 p.m.; on July 3, a block dance is planned in the Ricci's Market parking lot in Lymansville, followed by fireworks at 9:30 p.m. at the Little League field; on July 4, the 33rd Ancient and Horribles parade in Chepachet steps off at 4 p.m., and Smithfield's fireworks will illuminate the sky above Steere's field at midnight.

* Sandra Shaw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Shaw of Barnes Street, Greenville, won a tandem buggy sponsored by U.S. Keds at the Family Store.

* The Centredale Businessman's Association is working with store owners to improve the district as an attraction for shoppers.

A new parking lot for shoppers on Waterman Avenue has been paved and new sidewalk trash cans have been ordered. The trash cans will be emblazoned with a slogan - "I'm here to use, so don't REFUSE" - written by Joyce Casci, a student at St. Lawrence School that won a townwide contest. She received a $25 U.S. Savings Bond.

* Mr. and Mrs. James Drake of North Providence won the "Night-on-the town" contest sponsored by WPRO and J.J. Newberry Co. that included dinner at Johnson's Hummocks Restaurant in Providence, as well as a 40-piece barbecue set, an electric shaver, a cigarette lighter, and tickets to see the movie "Ben Hur."
