* Shoemobile places a back-to-school advertisement: "Every Friday Shoemobile is in North Providence, Smithfield, Harmony and North Scituate.
Shoemobile is the greatest helper weary mothers ever heard of. Just think - no buses to wait for - no parking problems - no driving through traffic and no extra charge for the shoes of service." The store was located at 76 Dorrance St., Providence, and dispatched the shoemobile to house calls.
* This year's collection by North Providence schoolchildren for the Jimmy Fund shows an increase of more than 50 percent over last year's figures. The total amount collected was $831, which organizers think places the school district in position to win the state award for the largest increase in a year: 15 bats and balls autographed by Ted Williams.
* Ace Hardware at 12 Waterman Ave., Centredale, is selling one gallon of Dutch Boy paint at $5.75 a gallon.
* In spite of the threat of rain on Sunday, Toegeman's Farm was the scene of the annual North Providence Democratic outing. Over 2,000 people attended and enjoyed the speakers, the hot dogs, ice cream and soda. Four boys from the local CYO put on a boxing exhibition. They were Rocco Colletti, Manuel George and David and Donald Smith. Rides and games were enjoyed by the younger children and everyone entered into the spirit of Family Picnic Day.
