Private well workshop set in Scituate Sept. 9

SCITUATE - An educational workshop on private well water protection will be offered on Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the North Scituate Community House at 456 West Greenville Road, by the University of Rhode Island Cooperative Extension and the Rhode Island Department of Health.

The workshop is co-sponsored by the Northern Rhode Island Conservation District and the Providence Water Supply Board.

The Department of Health recommends that private well owners test their wells every year for contaminants such as total coliform bacteria, nitrate, and sodium. Tests are also recommended every three to five years, and every five to 10 years for a series of other contaminants.

Funded by the Department of Health Capacity Development Program, the free two-hour long workshop will include a presentation, informational hand-outs, and the chance to speak with well water experts about individual concerns and questions.

Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Call the URI Cooperative Extension at 874-4918 for more information or register.
