Born in Birmingham, Ala., he was the son of the late William R. and Barbara A. (King) Harkin II. He resided in Cumberland for most of his life. Mr. Harkin was a cabinetmaker for many years. He was an Army veteran, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He leaves two sons, William R. Harkin IV of Woonsocket and Wade R. Harkin in Massachusetts; a daughter, Jennifer P. Harkin-Walker in Massachusetts; and two sisters, Dawn Harkin of Westerly and Jacquelyn Roos of Gulf Breeze, Fla. He also leaves seven grandchildren, three nieces and a nephew.
His funeral with military honors will be held Monday Aug. 25, 2008, at 1 p.m. in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Exeter. Relatives are kindly invited. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Directions/Guestbook: www.jjduffyfuneralhome.com
