She was the wife of the late Benjamin Costa. Born in Newberry, S.C., a daughter of the late Willie and Caroline (Hailstock) Scurry, Mrs. Costa had lived in Woonsocket since she moved to the community in 1944. She worked for the former U.S. Rubber for 25 years and also for Health Tex as an inspector until she retired at the age of 66. She was an active member of St. James Baptist Church and served on the kitchen committee, the Pastor Aid Society and the Alberta Chaplain Missionary Society. She leaves two brothers, Harmon Scurry and his wife Mildred and Clarence Scurry and his wife Mary, both of Woonsocket; a sister, Ulersee Allen and her husband Johnie of Woonsocket; four stepdaughters, Rosemarie Harris and Gloria Wilson, both of Woonsocket, Deborah Costa of Johnston and Susan Costa in Florida; and several grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Willie Scurry Jr., M.L. Scurry, Josephine Scurry and Mary Hill.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. James Baptist Church, South Main Street, Woonsocket. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone. Visitation at the S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1583 Diamond Hill Road, Woonsocket, will be Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited.
