WOONSOCKET - The best way to hold onto first place is to beat the team that's closest to you in the standings, and that's what LaRoche Dental did last week, dumping Fontaine Realty, 12-7, to increase its lead in the league standings to three full games.
Vinnie Ferrini was the winning pitcher and leading the offense for the winners were Jim Feeley, two triples and a single and three RBI, Tony Pierannunzi, three singles; Jim Penta, double and single; and Mel Steppo and Dave Russell, two hits each. Mike Aridano and Vin Fiontella contributed by smacking RBI triples. For Fontaine, Tony Nastarri and Emile Notorantonio each smacked a double and two singles and Jim Egan had a double and single.
Bousquet Oil upset Lepine Finance, 13-10. Rich Tokarski was the winning pitcher and also helped his own cause at the plate by belting a triple and single. Jerry Smith had a huge three-run double and Moe Berube knocked in four runs with two clutch hits. Larry Dolan poked three hits, and Frank Lanctot, a pair for the winners. For Lepine, Ron Dalpe, Ron Decubellis and Geno Roy were run-producers.
Village Haven topped T.R. Brien, 12-3. Roger Pincince was the winning pitcher and was hot at the plate, belting three hits and knocking in four runs. Roger Bastien added three hits and Bill Achilles drove in a pair with his two hits. Norm Bowlin, Frank O'Keefe and Bob Bissonnette all chipped in with a pair of hits for the winners.
Best for Brien was Dick Brennan with a, triple and single.
